Monistat for Candida Treatment

Monistat (Miconazole or Tioconazole) is a popular vaginal candida treatment that's available over the counter. You do not need a prescription for this medication. The product has one day yeast infection treatments, three day yeast infection treatments and a seven day yeast infection treatment option as well.

While you don't have to have a prescription for this product, you should be absolutely sure that you do indeed have a yeast infection before you use it. A yeast infection should be diagnosed by a doctor. If you have a problem with recurring yeast infections, you may know specifically that this is what you have so can utilize over the counter medications without a doctor's diagnosis.

The Monistat brand is a popular one and typically comes in different combinations depending on the program you purchase but often comes with suppositories and creams to help you both internally and externally in the vaginal area. Various factors impact which treatment option is best for you so don't hesitate to talk to your doctor or pharmacist before choosing either a 1 day yeast infection treatment, 3 day or 7 day treatment.

Some yeast infections can be stronger than others and require longer treatment. Depending on how frequently you have yeast infections, your candida can also be slightly resistant to specific medications so this comes in to play when you choose a solution for your needs.

What does Monistat do?

Monistat breaks down the cell membrane of the candida bacteria which causes the death of the bacteria. Different preparations of this medicine have varying levels of medication and effectiveness depending on your circumstances.

It's important that when you use any drug for any condition you are careful about taking other drugs or supplements at the same time. Oral antibiotics might not be wise to take during a yeast infection treatment and Warfarin is also a drug that could have interactions with certain yeast infection remedies. This is not an exhaustive list of possible drug interactions so it's important to review your circumstances with your health care provider.

If you have recurring yeast infections, you may consider looking into our other topics for assistance. Recurring yeast infections could be a problem you can resolve without over the counter drugs such as Monistat.
