Prebiotics, Probiotics and Candida

What's are probiotics and prebiotics? And, what do they have to do with candida or yeast infections? This article can shed some light on all these areas and help you incorporate probiotics and prebiotics into your diet to effectively keep candida levels under control.

Bacteria

We have good and bad bacteria in our bodies. When the candida albicans bacteria get out of control, you get a yeast infection, which can manifest with many symptoms. Our bodies have a balance of positive and negative flora and both are needed. When the negative bacteria outnumber the positive flora, this presents a problem. Probiotics such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus are positive flora that can be introduced into your body through various food sources that can help your balance return to normal.

Prebiotics such as Lactulose are something that help your body make more positive flora on its own and feed flora to help it thrive and grow. This can result in a happier, healthier digestive system that has the power to keep albicans bacteria at manageable levels.

Getting Probiotics and Prebiotics into Your Diet

Yogurt, cheese and juice can be infused with pre and probiotics. Things like kefir can also be a significant help. You can also get natural prebiotics from garlic and onions and inulin. Consuming these ingredients can be very helpful to your digestive functions and to keeping yeast infections from happening. You can also take a synbiotic which is a supplement containing both prebiotics and probiotics.

Because candida thrives in an environment with a lack of positive flora, it stands to reason that consuming foods rich in prebiotics and probiotics can help your body defend itself against candida overgrowth.

Diet and lifestyle play a huge part in your body's ability to maintain positive levels of flora and healthy flora can have health benefits beyond the prevention of yeast infections including improved digestion, healthier pH and improved immune system to fight free radicals.
