Nystatin Treatment for Candida

Nystatin is a popular medication for yeast infections. It's sold in several forms including tablets, vaginal cream, powder and topical cream and in some areas the topical cream is sold over the counter.

A lot of people get yeast infections. Some are serious and some not so serious but treatment is typically warranted and people can utilize a natural treatment or seek medical attention for a prescription such as Nystatin.

Candida bacteria can be sensitive to Nystatin and therefore it can be a popular treatment for yeast rashes; especially in babies with candida diaper rash. Very often a mixture of Nystatin Nyaderm topical ointment and 1% hydrocortisone cream is recommended as a treatment for very severe diaper rashes.

Oral Thrush

Oral thrush is often treated with an orally taken Nystatin. Oral thrush presents itself as white patches inside the mouth and can be very painful. This is often something that babies acquire from bacteria and Nystatin prescribed for this specific reason can be quickly effective.

Vaginal Yeast Infections

Vaginal yeast infections can be treated with Nystatin creams that are used on the skin at the site of a rash and inside the vagina as well.

How Does Nystatin Treat Candida?

Candida bacteria are alive. They are bacterial organisms that live and feed and proliferate. Nystatin breaks down the membrane of the cell wall so the candida fungus dies off. The medicine itself is a type of fungus.

Be sure to talk to your doctor with any questions you have about using this medication in the presence of other medications or medical conditions.

Nystatin is also sold under several brand names including: Nyaderm, Mycostatin, Nilstat, Nystop, Nystex, Pedi-Dri, Nadostine, Candistatin.

It's important to use your medication for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop using Nystatin medications too soon before candida are sufficiently destroyed, Candida bacteria can reappear and become resistant to your medication.
